My practice is an ongoing exploration of the trauma that comes with the experience of domestic violence and spoken word performance art that is used as a platform to communicate to the wider public. Talking openly about traumas and experiences of domestic violence is a known taboo within society that my practice intends to attempt to break. My performances consist of simplistic raps/poems that approach domestic violence traumas in the language of gossip, as this is a language understood by most of the public, but also a language that carries a lot of negative stigma’s as far as liability is concerned. However, my practice approaches gossip as qualitative experiences of domestic violence and an approach to the encouragement of talking about domestic violence in an empowering manner.
